The military airstrikes on Ann town and Kantaunggyi town in the heart of Arakan (Rakhine) State resulted in civilian deaths and injuries.
On the afternoon of July 4, the junta's air force launched an aerial assault on Kantaunggyi, a sub town in the Mrauk U region's Myebon Township, dropping 500-pound (1000 kg) bombs that killed two civilians and injured several others, according to a local source.
"Homes and structures have fallen. We are aware of two fatalities. Additionally, several individuals are hurt. At this time, we are unable to distinguish the genders," he stated.
Due to issues with internet and phone connections, Narinjara could not reach the victims in order to give their ages and names.
The junta air force has been regularly bombing Kantaunggyi, according to a military observer, perhaps because the town was thought to have economic significance and housed AA forces.
In addition, on the night of September 25, 2024, the junta air force bombed Kantaungyi with jet fighters, killing an 11-year-old girl and a 38-year-old civilian while also wounding seven civilians, one of whom was a young girl.
The town is under the control of the Arakan Army (AA) and is situated in a strategic coastal location between the northern and southern sections of Kyaukphyu and Myebon.
The report stated that there was no fighting with the AA in the village throughout the aerial attack.
Today, the junta's air force bombed the town of Ann, where the old Western Military Command was located.
The explosion occurred at the post-primary school in the Suupukkone Pyin Taw ward, shattering the school and damaging several neighboring homes.
