After a police request, the Cox's Bazar District Court has reportedly extended ARSA terrorist leader Ataullah's remand for three additional days in connection with four killings carried out at the Kutupalong refugee camp.
After taking the remand, the police will keep looking into the case. Ataullah was the subject of an arrest warrant for four murders committed in the Rohingya refugee camp in 2020.
In response to the police's plea for seven days of remand, Cox's Bazar Court Judge Asaf Uddin Asif on Wednesday afternoon granted only three days.
"In the case, the court has granted a three-day remand. In four high-profile killings, Attaullah Jununi is the suspect. In these instances, the investigating officer had asked for a seven-day remand in order to interrogate him. The court has granted three days," stated Md. Golam Jilani, the court's investigating officer.
With high security, Attaullah was brought to the Cox's Bazar court on Wednesday morning before being returned to the Cox's Bazar prison after the hearing, according to Golam Jilani.
In Kutupalong refugee camp in Okiya Township, where Muslim refugees from northern Rakhine state are housed, there was a battle between two armed groups on October 6, 2020, during which four people were killed, according to court sources.
The murder suspect is Attaullah. The police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is looking into the case.
Hindu leaders in the area want the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute Attaullah, the head of ARSA, who is said to have murdered over 100 Hindus, including women and children, in the northern town of Maungdaw in August 2017.
On March 18 of this year, RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) of Bangladesh Police raided Siddhirganj in Narayanganj and Notunbazar in Mymensingh in the early morning and captured six ARSA members, one of whom was Attaullah.
