A shell fired by the No. (12) Police Battalion stationed in Sittwe, Arakan (Rakhine) State, wounded a young woman from Pauktaw.

Ma Myat Myat Soe, 17, of Min Tsing hamlet in Pauktaw Township, is the victim.

According to a nearby resident, the bombardment occurred in the afternoon of July (12) and landed in the hamlet of Min Tsing, hurting Ma Myat Myat Soe's right hip.

"The police battalion stationed at Sittwe's biggest pond (Kandawgyi) opened fire. According to him, the junta troops deliberately fire it every day, and it landed in Min Tsing village, wounding a girl under 18.

On July 10 of last year, in the evening, U Kyaw Hla Maung, a 50-year-old resident of Nyaungpinrin hamlet in Ponnagyun Township, was hurt by a mortar shell that was fired by the Field Engineer Battalion (908) close to Kyar Ma Thout village in Sittwe.

The Sittwe-based battalions, such as Regional Command, the Field Engineer Battalion (908), the Paramilitary Battalions, including the 232nd Infantry Battalion, the 344th Infantry Battalion, and the Shwe Min Gan Naval Battalion, have been firing on the nearer townships of Sittwe under the control of the Arakan Army (AA) since the beginning of July.

Because of this, citizens who are stranded in the township are concerned that if the AA retaliates against Sittwe, they will have nowhere to escape, according to a woman resident who spoke to Narinjara.

"I can hear artillery fire every day now. I'm stuck in Sittwe and unable to leave the house. I am worried that the battle with the AA will resume if the firearms start firing again from Sittwe. I am unable to sleep for a day," she declared.

According to locals, the military council forces stationed in Sittwe are bombarding the townships of Pauktaw, Rathedaung, and Ponnagyun, which are located near Sittwe.
