The Bangladesh Coast Guard stated that two motorboats carrying 17 smugglers, 140,000 Yaba methamphetamine tablets, and 40 packs of foreign-made Mariz cigarettes were seized from Myanmar via waterways.
According to Cox's Bazar News, the confiscated contraband, including the drugs, is valued at roughly Tk 70.2 crore.
On July 18, the Bangladesh Coast Guard, which has its headquarters in Teknaf, and the Shahpari Island Outpost carried out a tip-off operation in the sea close to St. Martin Island, which is located at the mouth of the Naf River, which forms the border between Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Part of the boundary between northwestern Myanmar and southeastern Bangladesh is formed by the international Naf River.
When the coast guard ordered them to halt, the smugglers attempted to flee into the water while carrying the items from Myanmar in two wooden boats, according to Lt. Col. Harun (b) Rashid, the coast guard's media officer.
After an hour-long pursuit, the two boats were captured. The individuals who were taken into custody have been charged under the Narcotics Control Act.
But the authorities did not disclose the nationalities of the individuals taken into custody.
It is claimed that Yaba methamphetamine produced in Myanmar is being trafficked into Bangladesh via sea routes that are now under the control of the military council.
