Only 550 students from Rakhine State passed the 2025 Matriculation exam, which is also the university entrance exam, as hundreds of thousands of students were unable to attend school due to the civil war in the state, and over 3,000 schools were closed there.
The number of students who are successful has decreased by 20% annually.
It was stated that 550 out of 1,564 students from Rakhine State passed the 2025 university entrance exam, which was released by the Myanmar Examinations Department on the morning of July 27.
The exam was taken by 1,564 pupils, and 550 of them passed, resulting in a 35.17% success rate.
The 2025 university entrance exam was conducted in three townships—Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung—but not in the 15 towns held by the AA, which include Paletwa, due to the ongoing conflict in Rakhine State.
In a similar vein, there were a total of (8) examination centers—(4) in Sittwe, (2) in Kyaukphyu, and (2) in Manaung Township—and almost 200 examination centers were unable to administer examinations.
This year, no students in the entire Rakhine state passed the tests for the 5th and 6th grades, and just two students from Kyaukphyu Township received the highest honors in the 4th grade.
Out of the 3264 students who signed up to take the university entrance exam on its first day, March 17, 2025, 1700 failed to take the entire exam.
A total of 1564 students, 741 males and 823 girls, sat for the test in Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung. Due to the conflict, just 47.92% actually took the exam.
The university entrance exam was administered to 8534 students from Rakhine State in the most recent academic year (2023–2024), and 5253 of them passed.
The state government reported a pass rate of 58.86% for the academic year 2022–2023, with 9,964 out of 16,928 students passing.
More than 40,000 students took the matriculation exam in Rakhine state in the 2021–2022 school year, and over 45,000 students enrolled.
Over 19,000 students in Rakhine state passed out of the 40,000 pupils who took the exam in the 2021–2022 academic year, for a pass rate of 47.25%.
On the morning of July 27, the nation simultaneously released the results of the March 2025 matriculation exam and the June 2025 retake exam for earthquake-affected states and regions.
According to the report of the Myanmar examination department, 99,924 out of 207,898 students who took the exam in Myanmar passed, giving a pass rate of 48.06%.
