Landmine detonations along the Bangladesh- Arakan border have resulted in at least five fatalities and 44 injuries during the previous eight years, according to a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officer.
According to Bangladeshi media, the remarks were made by the BGB official during a mine awareness seminar held at a government high school in Kaungdum, Naikhongchhari township, Bandarban district, Bangladesh, on July 21.
Between 2017 and 2025, during a land-clearing exercise carried out by the Myanmar army, large numbers of Muslim community fled from northern Rakhine to Bangladesh, resulting in the carnage.
According to the report, the victims were from the villages of Tambru, Chakdhala, Ashatoli, Jamchhari, Fultoli, and Jaruliachhari in the Natkhyauksri Township.
At a mine awareness seminar conducted in Khawthon on July 21, landmine survivors reported that the presence of landmines made them fear for their lives along the border.
The Arakan Army (AA) was also charged by Bangladeshi citizens with planting landmines along the boundary, which made the locals feel unsafe.
Mazharul Islam, the administrative officer of Natkhongchhari Township, stated that crossing the border was dangerous and that Bangladeshis living there should be aware of the boundaries of their nation.
The former military council border guard forces planted thousands of mines along the border with Bangladesh for security purposes, and these mines are still there today.
