Kyaukphyu Township, where the battle is still raging, was subjected to a continued bombardment by the junta Air Force.
According to a report by a local news source, a junta jet fighter bombed the monastery in the township's Thatdat-htein village, Minrat ward, at 11 am on July 30.
Although there was some damage, it was not possible to reach anyone to determine if anyone was hurt in the attack because of issues with the phone and internet connections.
The Arakka Princess Media reported that the explosion destroyed the monastery structure, the roof, and several walls, including the Ordination Hall of the monastery.
Although there has been a momentary halt to the battle between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council outside Kyaukphyu in recent days, both sides are still getting ready for war, and the military council is still employing artillery and drones in the attacks.
Furthermore, the junta is utilizing the navy in firing artillery at surrounding communities where the battle is happening as well as using planes to step up its bombing campaign.
On July 23, the military council attacked the Kyauk Pyauk village monastery and Kulaba village in Kyaukphyu Township, killing one villager and a 93-year-old monk.
Kyaukphyu is the second-largest city in Arakan (Rakhine) State, and the majority of the projects there are owned by Chinese. Additionally, Kyaukphyu is strategically important militarily, economically, and politically to both the military council and the Arakan Army (AA). Thus, according to military observers, the struggle over who owns the city could grow more intense as the two parties engage in a fierce conflict.
