Sittwe authority searches for documents from 3 Chinese nationals

Narinjara News, 20 August 2022

The military council forces on Thursday at 10 pm entered an apartment at Shwe Pyithar ward of Sittwe and searched for passports and other documents from three Chinese nationals, who were staying there.

Around 100 individuals from the junta soldiers, police & immigrant departments raided the apartment during the night hours and checked various documents belonging to those Chinese nationals.

A government source, who wanted anonymity, confirmed that those Chinese nationals were detained by the navy forces on 14 August, while they were traveling by a boat.

“The concerned authority in Kyauk Pru informed the Sittwe-based security forces to seize all documents including passports of those Chinese nationals, who were detained by the junta authority in Kyauk Pru, but I don't know more details,” he added.

Narinjara News contacted Rakhine State military council’s spokesperson U Hla Thein and Kyauk Pru township’s administrator over telephone but they did not respond.

A local resident informed that the junta forces also checked the family lists and visitor lists in several other apartments in the premises.

“I was also asked for the family lists. They asked my parent’s name too and my career  as well. I was worried while they checked the family lists as they held guns on me,” he added.

The arrested Chinese nationals were staying in the apartment for a long time but no one was aware of their activities. The locals only knew that they came to Sittwe for business interest.
