Police officer charged under Terrorism Act for allegedly reporting to AA

A 27-year-old police officer on duty at Sane police station in Kyaukphyu Township has been charged under the Terrorism Act for allegedly reporting to the AA.

The accused, Ko Ye Ko Naing, is from Ale Chaung Village in Rambree Township and works in Sane police station in Kyaukphyu Township. 

His sister, Ma Khin Mi Mi Aung, told Narinjara that he was arrested while on duty at Sane police station in Kyaukphyu and has been charged under the Counter Terrorism Act.

"He was arrested on the 28th of June. He had come home to eat, but I did not come home to eat on the 28th. It was on the 29th that he was charged with terrorism. He is being held at the Kyaukphyu City Police Station. He was arrested for reporting to the AA, ”she said.

Daw Lin Lin Khaing, a lawyer representing Ko Ye Ko Naing, said: “His case is still pending. The charges against him are sections 50 (j) and 52 (a),” she said.

Kyaw Lwin, a Kyaukphyu Township State Hluttaw representative, confirmed to Narinjara that a case against the police officer had been filed.

Kyaukphyu Township Police Lt. Col. Kyaw Zaw was not available for comment.
