More than 80 ethnic Burmese nationalities protested yesterday afternoon in front of the office of United Nations in Japan’s Tokyo city.

The demonstrators raised demands for release of students, who were recently arrested for calling to an end to Rakhine conflicts, and also an easy access to 4G internet services in the Covid-19 stricken Rakhine State.

The protest demonstration, organized by Rakhine National Democratic Party (ANDP) in Japan, OKO-Japan Karen Organization and KNO-Japan Kachin Organization, continued for two hours from 2 pm (Japan standard time).

The protesters showed banner & posters and also chanted slogans against the Burmese government in Naypyidaw and Tatmadaw, said ANDP general secretary U Thet Tun Aung.

He also added that the primary demands include the immediate release of those arrested students, the access to speedy internet service in Rakhine and also showing respect to basic human rights for the Rakhine people.

Presently, there are at least 269 people in Rakhine State who were arrested under various unfounded charges under the anti-terrorism laws.

Not less than 15 students of All Burma Federation of Students' Unions (ABFSU) were arrested for protesting against the Rakhine wars where as 30 students are still hiding to escape the police actions.

“The illogical prosecution of such laws is nothing but to spread fears among the Rakhine people. We strongly condemn the human rights abuses by Burmese military personnel in Rakhine,” added Thet Tun Aung.

The Tokyo protesters also displayed photographs of children and women killed by military personnel. They chanted slogans in favour of peace and progress in Rakhine State.

It may be mentioned that at least seven townships of Rakhine including Paletwa township  of  Chin State are witnessed the slow internet services. Over one million people there have faced troubles in exercising their rights to information due to the closure of  4G services.
