Two Myanmarese detained in Bangladesh with drugs worth Tk 8 crore

Two Myanmar nationals with around 54,000 Yaba pills and over one kg of crystal meth worth  Taka eight crore have been detained in Cox's Bazar locality by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday.

The detainees have been identified as Zubaier Ahmed (22 years old, son of Siraj Uddin) and Md Rafique (23, son of Abdul Goni) from  Maungdaw in Myanmar.

Acting on a tip-off, a BGB-2 team intercepted a boat in Naf river and detained both the drug peddlers, informed Lt Col Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar, commanding officer of Teknaf Battalion-2.

The peddlers tried to escape the security personnel  by jumping into the river, but they were eventually caught.

"Some 54,000 Yaba pills and 1.069 kg of crystal meth worth Tk 8 crore were seized from their possession,” he added.

The Burmese Yaba stimulant and Methamphetamines are often smuggled into Bangladesh and the arrests indicated its ongoing illegal activities.
