Two school buildings in Lanma Kyung IDP camp in Buthidaung, around 80 miles north of Rakhine capital city of Sittwe, collapsed due to strong wind and so nearly 200 students are presently facing difficulties, said U Kyaw Win, a teacher from the school.

The incident took place on 12 February at around 1 pm. However, no student or teacher was injured and they escaped without any harm.

"It's a little windy these days. Fortunately, no one in the school was hurt. But the buildings fully collapsed. Moreover, there is no money for rebuilding activities. Hence unless there are funds from the donors, the children may not get the opportunity to go to school before the examination,” added U Kyaw Win.

Both the buildings were self-funded by the Lanma refugee camp. Those are built by the bamboo and palm leaves. Each dormitory is around 50 feet long and 30 feet wide.

With the permission of the Education Department, 164 pupils from kindergarten up to seventh standard are studying, said the teacher.
Ma Mae Chae, a seventh grade student of the school, said, “Our school has completely collapsed. The big exam is also nearby. It would be good if the school can be rebuilt soon.”

In Buthidaung Lanma Kyung IDP camp there are  1,351 people taking shelter who hail from 16 villages including Kyauktan under Rathedaung township and  Nwa Yone Taung, San Go Taung, Tayet Byint,   Shasar Taung under Buthidaung  township.

There are more than 60,000 refugees taking shelter in camps in 10 townships of Rakhine State and most of their children are having difficulties to pursue academic education.
