Three Rakhine fishermen died in Thailand, over one million Thai baht to be offered

Narinjara News, 5 April 2022

Three Rakhine migrant workers, working at a fishing boat of  Pattani in southern Thailand, died on 31 March while retrieving fishes from the boat, said the Migrant Worker’s Rights Network (MWRN).

The victims, identified as Maung San Hla alias Nga Prat Chay, Nyi Nyi and Kyaw Win Maung, all hail from Le Nyin Taung village under  Mrauk-U township of Rakhine State, died because of suffocation.

They died getting down into the store unit of the fishing boat by 9 pm. The boat was about to arrive at the shore after a 10-day fishing trip in Pattani locality.

According to the other boatmen, the fishes were covered by the ice and salt, which normally forms the gas if fishes are not washed and drained properly.

The Social Security Administration (Parksangkhum) will provide nearly one million and eighty thousands Thai baht per person from the insurance coverage.

The  families are in touch with the MWRN and the victims are scheduled for cremation at Pattani’s Wat Lam Noh monastery.
