Narinjara News, 15 June 2022

One person was killed and another injured in a landmine explosion in Myebon township of Rakhine State on 14 June.

According to a relative, both were hailing from an IDP camp in Sa Nyin village. The landmine exploded when one stepped on it while moving towards the nearby mountain to look for bamboo shoots.

The victim has been  identified as Maung Than Tin (30 years old), where Maung Kyi Win (30) sustained injuries.

Than Tin lost both of his legs and succumbed to injuries on the spot, said U Thabin Nadi, a monk assisting the refugee camp. Talking to Narinjara News over telephone, he added that Kyi Win was sent to Kan Toung Gyi hospital.

Villagers in the camp claimed that those landmines were planted by the Myanmar army personnel who took shelter during the gunfighting against Arakan Army members two years back.

Earlier, on 31 May morning Daw Tin Thein (70, hailing from Ruk Thar village under  Kyauktaw township) was killed as she put herself on a landmine in the mountain.

Similarly, on 29 May, Aung Aung Oo, a Khumi youth from Ngacha village, suffered from a landmine blast in Paletwa township of  Chin State.
