Narinjara News, 14 July 2022

On the morning of 13 July, the locals found an unexploded torpedo on the beach near Minma Kywe Village under  Man Aung township of Rakhine State.

The villagers found the torpedo with the words ‘D&P Torpedo’ written on it.

Minma Kywe village administrator said that it is around 9 feet long and  3 feet in circumference. Officials are currently investigating the piece and how it reached the coast.

Locals have speculated that the torpedo may have been used by the Burmese military personnel as training equipment in the naval exercise during 1 to 5 July.

Some experts argue that the torpedo is made in India and the Indian Navy often uses the LWT-XP light torpedo. The Burmese military has launched an investigation into the matter.

It may be mentioned that from 1 to 5 July, the military council conducted a naval exercise in the Rakhine coast with several warships including two submarines, one of those was bought from India. The military exercises were conducted with a number of warships.

Myanmar military chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also visited the exercise on 5 July.
