Bangladesh to lodge strong protest against Myanmar shelling

Narinjara News,29 August 2022

Bangladesh will lodge a “strong” protest against shells fired from Myanmar into Bangladesh, said Bangladesh media reports.

At least two unexploded mortar shells landed at Tumbru border of Ghumdhum in Bandarban’s Naikkhyangchhari of Bangladesh on Sunday. The local villagers got scared after witnessing the shells.

Bangla foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen confirmed that Dhaka will protest against the actions.

"We usually protest against such things. A few days ago, we received similar reports. We will strongly protest,” said Momen.

He added that they would  first investigate the matter if the mortar shells were fired intentionally towards the Bangladesh territory and then would do the needful.

Meanwhile, the  Border Guard Bangladesh has stepped up its vigil along the Myanmar border in Bandarban locality.

According to the Arakan Army sources, the Burmese junta forces attacked their camps on the border with Bangladesh by using the Russian made Mi 35 on 28 August. The AA has already started an offensive against the government forces in northern Maungdaw township in order to maintain their control over areas.

Currently, a strong base of the junta forces near border pillar number 40has been surrounded by AA members. The junta forces targeted AA members by the helicopters many times on Sunday, said a local resident.
