Bangladesh foreign affairs ministry on Sunday summoned the Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka for three times in two weeks over intruding of Burmese planes in the Bangladesh airspace and also shells landed in the country.

Myanmar diplomat Aung Kyaw Moe was summoned to lodge the protest against the violation of border treaty between the two neighbouring countries.

Dhaka-based newspaper reported that director general Mia Mainul Kabir summoned the Burmese envoy to the guest house named Padma and a formal protest letter was handed over to Aung Kyaw Moe.

"The diplomat was summoned, and a meeting took place for an hour. He was informed of Dhaka’s displeasure over the recent incident,” said a local newspaper.

The Burmese forces on Saturday orchestrated a series of attacks on the Arakan Army bases along the international border from the fighter planes and helicopters in Bandarban area of Bangladesh.

The Ghumdhum area under  Naikhyongchari township and the villages between border pillar number 40 and 41 were affected by the battle that broke out by 9:20 am on Sunday.

The fierce fighting between the AA members, who are waging a war for an autonomous Arakan State, and the Burmese junta forces took place. The AA occupied the area near pillar number 40 border police outpost. A least 19 border police personnel were killed, and one soldier was arrested.

"The engaged fighter jets fired around 10 mortar shells and the helicopters fired nearly 35 rounds from the sky. Two mortar shells even landed inside Bangladeshi near the pillar number 40," informed a Bandarban police officer.

The Burmese helicopters fired 300-350 rounds in the morning hour that created panic among the local villagers. The helicopters were again spotted by 12 noon between pillar number 38 and 39 and it fired 30-35 rounds.

Bangladesh foreign minister AK Abdul Momen said that Dhaka was cautiously observing the situation in Myanmar.

“As the violence continues to break, we have sealed the border with Myanmar. We cannot allow any individual to enter our territory,” stated the minister adding, “Border Guard Bangladesh personnel have been put on alert for the same.”

Earlier on 19 August, the Bangladesh foreign ministry summoned the Burmese diplomat as two mortar shells landed at Tambru area under Naikhyongchari of Bandarban locality.
