The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remains on high alert after the tension arises in Myanmar bordering araes in recent days,  reported Dhaka Tribune quoting BGB Director General Sakil Ahmed.
Ahmed revealed it during a press briefing after visiting the border area of Naikhongchhari in Bandarban locality on Monday.

“In order to prevent smuggling and illegal entry through the international border, the BGB has maintained a strict surveillance,” the BGB chief said.
For the last two months, incidents of gunfire were taking place across the Myanmar-Bangladesh border between the Myanmar Army and Arakan Army (AA). Even the mortar shells and bullets were shot into Naikhongchhari and on some occasions those killed and injured many people, he added.
Those incidents have caused the local residents to live in fear, commented the border police chief adding that though the tension arised inside Myanmar and it’s their internal matter, the BGB can not ignore the situation. It is keeping regular contact with the Myanmar Border Guard Police, he added.
“A flag meeting will soon be held,” informed Ahmed.
He revealed that the concerned Myanmar authorities were informed about the recent landmine explosions near the border.

Ahmed urged the Bangladeshi national living near the border areas to remain cautious of the situation.
Last month, a 17-year-old Myanmar refugee boy named Mohammad Iqbal was killed and five other individuals were injured as a mortar shell fired by the Myanmar security forces exploded at the zero point Refugee camp, close to the international border in Tombru of Bandarban.
The deceased and injured people were taking shelter in camp, which is very close to the international border.
Same day, a youth named Aung Tun Wai Tanchangya was seriously injured in a landmine explosion along the border in Naikhongchhari area. Due to injuries, one of his legs had to be amputated in the hospital.
