Minor girl of detainee dies living in Thandwe prison

Two years and four months old daughter of Nyein Ei Phyo Kyaw's (35), who was arrested on suspicion of financing a PDF in Ngapali and detained at Thandwe prison, died at around 9 pm on 17 February.

The baby is identified as Ma Shwe Yun Ein, mother of whom was arrested from Ngapali town under Thandwe township in the southern part of Rakhine State on 3 November 2021 and prosecuted under section 50 (j) of the Criminal Code.

The baby underwent surgery for a congenital defect and later died while living in the prison with her mother. She was buried on 18 February, informed her grandfather Kyaw Lwin.

"The child started vomiting and later died. She had no disease. I am yet to see her mother. The body was taken from the hospital and buried,” said the grandfather.

The body was autopsied at Thandwe public hospital. However, the cause of death is not yet known, said the hospital director Dr Ye Win Tun.

Speaking to Narinjara News, he admitted that he had not received the autopsy report and it might be available tomorrow.
