13 bodies of missing Muslims found after Malaysia bound boat sank in Sittwe

Thirteen more bodies have been found among the 45 Muslims, who went missing after their boat sank in the sea near Sittwe a few days back.

On Wednesday four bodies were recovered from the Basara village  beach under Sittwe township and five bodies from  the Thae Chaung Muslim village beach.

A total of 13 bodies were found, confirmed  U Min Chai Wa, chairman of Shwe young mitta foundation that participated in the search operation.

"I didn't know how many women and men were there. There are also young people among the victims,” he added.

All the bodies have been sent to Sittwe general hospital.

Basara village administrator U Ei Lee Yat said that they found three bodies of women.

“I don't know about recovered bodies from  other places. I heard that there were many bodies and most of them are women,” he added.

On 7 August, a boat carrying 55 Muslims from Anauk Byint village under Rathedaung township left for Malaysia by the sea rout.

The  boat sank due to strong winds and waves in the sea near Sittwe point beach on the same day.

The incident took place at  4 pm. Eight men were rescued alive along with two bodies of Muslim women at first. They are currently being held at Sittwe city police station.

After that, 13 more bodies were found  and 32 passengers are still missing. The police, social relief groups, residents etc are still searching for the missing persons.
