83 junta soldiers flee Paletwa camp, crossing into Mizoram of India

Two groups of junta soldiers fled into Mizoram in northeast India facing the offensive of the Arakan Army (AA) members on point-377 hill-based camp, a military stronghold of the junta in the Paletwa
region.

The soldiers entered Tuisen village in Lawngtlai district of  Mizoram in two groups on 29 December.

The initial group comprising 73 soldiers entered the Mizo village by  11 am and later the second batch of 10 soldiers arrived by  6 pm.

The soldiers surrendered at an Indian police station and later they were handed over to the Assam Rifles along with their weapons. They were already shifted to  Lunglei locality of Mizoram.

When inquired about the matter, an individual aligned with the AA informed that over 80 soldiers from the military camp were captured by their members.

"We have received information that there are more than 80 soldiers who fled to India side. Their only escape route was  to India since the lower part of the region is controlled by the AA. It's believed that the Indian agencies have been providing protection to the soldiers,” he added.

The AA reported the complete capture of the junta's point-377 hill-based camp in Paletwa locality  along the India-Myanmar border on Thursday morning.
