The deceased has been identified
as Daw Ma Aye Nwe (50) from Inn Din village in southern Maungdaw township.
"Yesterday, while she was
going to the base of Mayu mountain to collect firewood, she stepped on a
landmine planted by the border guard forces and soon she lost her life,"
said a villager.
Meanwhile at Ann Thar village of
Minbya township, a man while fleeing the conflicts suddenly stepped on a
landmine and sustained severe injury to one leg.
The injured individual is Maung
Nyein Chan (20), who fled from Okkar Pyan ward of Minbya township.
While picking plums near Phar Pyo
village close to Yar Maung old bridge, he accidentally stepped on a landmine on
27 January.
"A group of villagers went to
pick plums from the trees, where the soldiers were stationed. He lost his right
leg,” said a villager.
He also sustained shrapnel injury
to his left leg and his right eye. Currently, he is receiving treatment at Pyar
Chaung clinic.
The community elders have
prohibited people from visiting Yar Maung old bridge, where the junta forces
are stationed, and some nearby villages due to the presence of landmines
planted by the soldiers.
"The fleeing villagers
are also advised to keep away from the vicinity of Yar Maung old bridge
as there are landmines there which are yet to be cleared,” explained a resident.
In another incident, a person
heading to Taung Hla Maw of Rathedaung township was killed by a sniper shot
from the junta forces yesterday. However, Narinjara News can not confirm the
information due to difficulties in communication.
