Remnant bomb explosion kills father, injures daughter in Minbya

An old remnant bomb exploded at Nga Tan Pyin village under Minbya township of Rakhine State on 6 April  killing a villager and seriously injuring his daughter.

The remnant bomb was picked up from the backyard and it exploded at around 3 pm, which killed U Hla Kyaw Khaing (aged 58) on the spot. It also seriously injured his daughter named Ma Phyu Ma Chey (28).

"Those remnants of war were probably planted by the junta forces as they had a base here.

The victim villager smashed the bomb after bringing it from his backyard and he died on the spot. His daughter also sustained injuries and she is currently under medical treatment," said a local resident.

Nga Tan Pyin village remains an affected village where the junta soldiers had their base.

In January, many houses caught fire after the airstrikes were carried out by jet fighters and firing of  artillery shells. The soldiers also entered the village and raped many women. Even a  woman along with her mother were also killed.

After the Arakan Army (AA) captured Minbya township, many villagers of Nga Tan Pyin, who left their places, had returned to the village. However, they expressed their worries for the landmines and remnant bombs.

"If possible, we would like to demand for clearance of landmines and remnant bombs in our village," said a local woman.

On 14 March, Maung San Win (aka) Bar Gyi, a 25-year-old mentally ill individual from Yan Taing village under Minbya township was seriously injured in a remnant bomb explosion.
