The 275th infantry battalion, the last remaining
battalion in Myawaddy of Karen State, a key border town on Thailand border, was completely captured by
KNU-Central on Thursday.
Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and joint forces
have completely captured the last remaining battalion in the morning hours of
11 April.
KNLA, Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO)
and other revolutionary joint forces launched the offensive against the
275th battalion. Though they offered the battalion to surrender, the response
was not positive. Rather the soldiers resisted and waited for reinforcements.
So the offensive was launched on 8 April and finally it was fully captured by
4:20 am. The fighters also seized a significant volume of weapons and
ammunition.
Now all junta camps in Myawaddy township have
gone to the control of revolutionary forces. The KNU is now clearing all
remaining remnants of junta soldiers and it urged the people to cooperate with
them.
Local sources also revealed that as the fighters
captured the 275th battalion, the 44th division commander along with 200
soldiers retreated to the number 2 friendship bridge.
