Ann township court in Rakhine State has sentenced four Ann
residents to three years in prison. It includes three individuals under section
505(a) of the penal code for spreading propaganda to destabilize the country
and one person under section 17(1) and 17(2) for unlawful association.
Ma Tin Nilar Aung from Zay Taung ward, Daw Moe Pwint Phyu from Dai Gyi village
and U Zaw Win Tun from Pyine Taw village were charged under section 505(a) of
the penal code.
On the other hand, U Aung Aung Thein, who worked in the
public health department
was charged under section 17(1) and 17(2) for unlawful
association.
A local resident informed Narinjara that those three individuals charged under
section 505(a) were sentenced on 8 March and U Aung Aung Thein was sentenced on
19 March.
"The dates of sentencing are different. U Zaw Win Tun's family is from the
372nd light infantry battalion and he was imprisoned under section 505(a). The
other individual, who is not a doctor but an employee of the department, was
sentenced under section 17," he added.
Two men sentenced to the prison were transported to
Sittwe jail on 22 March, while the remaining two women are still detained at
the Ann township court.
"The two men were airlifted to Sittwe prison. I think the other two women
will be transported soon,” he said.
Tin Nilar Aung, also known as Mee Nge, runs the facebook account ‘Nilar Aung’
from Zay Taung ward, was arrested by the soldiers on 6 December
2023.
