AA vice commander-in-chief Dr Nyo Twan Awng attends Shan State Army's 60th anniversary ceremony



During the 60th anniversary celebration of Shan State Army (SSA) on Wednesday, Arakha Army vice commander-in-chief Dr Nyo Twan Awng was present and he awarded general Pang Fa, chairman of the Shan State Progressive Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) with the United League of Arakan (ULA/AA) medal of honour.

 

The ceremony was organised at  SSPP/SSA headquarters in Kyethi township. Dr Nyo Twan Awng attended the event alongside the SSPP/SSA chairman, reported by SHAN News (Burmese Version).


The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) and Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLO/PNLA)  sent messages on the occasion.

 

"There are  changes taking place since the 2021 military coup. Moreover, there are military and political shifts after the 'Operation 1027' in 2023. With the evolving political landscape and advantageous circumstances for our people and the region, SSPP/SSA and the Shan people can further advance with organizational objectives," said Dr Nyo Twan Awng.


He personally presented the medal of honour of ULA/AA to the SSPP/SSA president and shared encouraging words about the Shan State revolution.


On 24 April 1964, after the Shan armed revolution (which  began on 21 May 1958), the dispersed Shan armed forces were brought together. Sao Nang Hearn Kham, wife of Myanmar's first president Nyaungshwe Saopha Sao Shwe Thaik was appointed as the chairperson marking the establishment of SSA.
