2 students died of lightning while playing game on mobile phone



Two students of  Laytaung town under  Rambree township of Rakhine State faced lightning while they were playing mobile games.


The incident took place on 31 May and victims have been identified as eighth-grade student Maung Lin Lin Tun (son of U Maung Mae)  and eleventh-grade student Maung Myint Myat Maung (son of  U Nye Shwe Maung).

A local woman told Narinjara News that both of them were playing games on mobile phones at U Maung Mae's residence.

"The boys were charging their phones and simultaneously playing games. It was a rainy day and suddenly lightning struck them at noon. Both died on the spot,” she added.

Earlier on 30 May at around 4:30 pm, a boat was struck by lightning in Kyauk Phyu township and killed U Tun Win Chay (44) hailed from Min Chaung village. Another person named Ko Maung Maung Tin was also seriously injured, said the family members.

On 24 May, Maung Khaing Hein Phyo  (4) from Pyint Taw village under Rathedaung township, which was completely damaged by the cyclone Mocha, was also struck by lightning. The boy was in a temporary shelter at that time and instantly died.

Besides frequent lightning incidents, Rakhine State is experiencing hot weather after the cyclonic storm hit the State on 14 May last.
