Tow bodies of Muslim women were recovered from Sittwe beach last evening. Eight individuals were rescued from a capsized boat last evening, where as 50 other went missing reportedly.
They all hail from Anauk Byint Muslim village under Rathedaung township of Rakhine State and used a boat to reach Malaysia but big waves hit them near Sittwe beach.
The incident took place about around 4 pm on 7 August.
According to Rakhine Daily News of the State military council, eight passengers were found alive along with
two dead bodies near Basara village
under Sittwe township.
"The Muslim villagers started their journey on 6 August in the evening hours towards Malaysia. But their boat
was overturned by the waves near
Point beach in Sittwe. Initial reports say that there were more than 50 people on the boat,” reported
the Rakhine media outlet.
Information officer of the Sittwe-based Shwe Young Metta Foundation, who went to bring the bodies, informed
Narinjara News that one of the victims
was in her 20s and the other in 30s. Both had no external injuries, he added.
Their bodies have been sent to Sittwe general hospital.
