Artillery Shell Injures Two Young Women and an Elderly Man in Maungdaw Township

Junta forces fired artillery shells into Kan Thar Yar village, Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, without any conflict, causing injuries to two young women and an elderly man,  according to reports.

 The individuals injured by artillery shell shrapnel in Kan Thar Yar village are Ma Sabel Moe, aged 17, Ma Nu Nu Wai, aged 11, and U Kaung Hla Nyo, aged 75.

 

On January 4, at 11:10 AM, three artillery shells, fired by Maungdaw-based No.5 Border Guard Police Battalion and Buthidaung-based battalions, exploded in Kan Thar Yar village, causing serious injuries to individuals and damage to a house, as reported by the villagers.

 A villager informed Narinjara News, stating, "There was no ongoing conflict at that time. The artillery shells unexpectedly exploded in the village. One detonated on the outskirts of the village, another on the village road, and a third one hit a house."

 

U Kaung Hla Nyo was sunbathing under the roof of his house when an artillery shell struck his home, resulting in a shrapnel wound on his right thigh.

 A villager in Kan Thar Yar reported, "U Kaung Hla Nyo was injured when an artillery shell hit his house. The two young girls were injured when a shell exploded while they were playing on the road."

 

Villagers reported that Ma Sabel Moe and Ma Nu Nu Wai were playing on the village road when an artillery shell exploded there. Ma Sabel Moe was struck by shrapnel in the thigh, and Ma Nu Nu Wai sustained injuries from shrapnel grazing her back. Both U Kaung Hla Nyo and Ma Sabel Moe, with serious injuries, were taken to Maungdaw hospital for treatment.
