Low pressure in Bay of Bengal may create cyclone on 10 May



Myanmar department of meteorology & hydrology informs at 7 am on Sunday that a low pressure has developed in southeastern part of the Bay of Bengal which may turn into a cyclone on 10 May.

In a statement, the department informs that the low-pressure area may cover the southeastern part by tomorrow. It will gain strength by 9 May and finally reach depression next day.


Moving towards the northern area it will emerge as a cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal.

According to the recent forecast there will be light showers and thunderstorms in Sagaing, Mandalay and Tanintharyi regions and the States of Kachin,  Shan,  Chin, Rakhine and Mon.

Indian met departments also informed that a cyclonic circulation had formed in the southeastern part of the Bay of Bengal.

Details about the cyclone are yet to be provided, but it’s under constant observation of responsible monitoring agencies.

The department also added that there is a large variation among the cyclone forecasting models with the landfall point varying from southeast to northeast Myanmar between 13 and 14 May.
