Residents reported
that the deceased individual was Ko Maung Zeik from Laung Chaung Ward, and the
person severely injured was U Sein Shwe Oo from Nyaung Pin Hla Village.
According to a
resident, Ko Maung Zeik from Laung Chaung Ward was killed on the spot by shell
shrapnel during airstrikes by the Military Council on Ramree Township around
12:30 PM, following a clash between the AA and the Military Council earlier
this morning.
"The clash this
morning resulted in two civilians being hit—one killed and one injured. Ko
Maung Zeik in Laung Chaung Ward died on the spot," stated the resident.
Residents also
reported that U Sein Shwe Oo from Nyaung Pin Hla village sustained a leg injury
from shrapnel when the Military Council's jet fighters, helicopters, navy
warships, and hill-based battalions fired artillery shells.
A resident of Ramree
stated, "U Sein Shwe Oo from Nyaung Pin Hla village was hit by shrapnel in
the thigh. He was subsequently taken to Sane hospital."
On December 18,
around 7 AM, the Arakan Army (AA) launched an attack on Thein Taung near the
Myoma market in Ramree Township, where Military Council troops were stationed.
This led to a skirmish between the two sides, as reported by residents.
From 12:00 p.m.
onwards, Military Council troops utilized helicopters and jet fighters for
frequent hovering and airstrikes on Ramree Township and nearby villages where
the conflict is ongoing.
Residents of Ramree
informed Narinjara that the people of Ramree Township were compelled to flee
for their lives as the Military Council troops launched an attack on the
township employing the army, navy, and air force.
Military Council
troops are firing artillery shells from hill-based battalions, as well as air
force and navy, on Ramree Township. Residents reported that this afternoon, a
row of gas stations near the South Okkala neighborhood in Ramree Township was
destroyed, and houses in the town were set on fire.
When contacted at
6:35 PM today, residents around Ramree Township reported that the sound of
artillery shells and small arms fire had temporarily ceased.
