Attack with artillery shells in Kyauktaw Township injures five and kills two, including a child

An explosion occurred when a residential area in Kyauktaw Township was struck by an artillery shell fired by the junta forces during the continuing combat at the Taung Shay mountain tactical operation command station.

 

Two people—one of them was a child—died and five others were injured in this incident.

 

The individuals who lost their lives in the incident were Maung Nyan Hein, aged 3, and Ko Maung Byar, aged 22, both residents of Myauk Taung village.

 

The individuals who sustained injuries in the incident were Daw Pyar Ma, 68 years old, Daw Hla Nu Yaing, 41 years old, Daw Oo Nyunt Sein, 62 years old, Daw Htay Htay, 39 years old, and U Kyaw Than Hlaing, 31 years old.

 

According to a resident in Kyauktaw who informed Narinjara News, an artillery shell fired by the 9th Military Operations Command (MOC-9) exploded in Myauk Taung Village, Kyauktaw Township, around 1 PM, and another shell landed at approximately 3 PM.

 

A resident of Kyauktaw reported, "MOC-9 has been firing artillery shells towards Taung Shay mountain since 4 AM. They also conducted bombardments with warplanes. Around 1 PM, an artillery shell fired by MOC-9 landed in the village, injuring three adults. At 3 PM, another artillery shell landed, resulting in the tragic death of a child and a man, as well as injuries to two others."

 

The resident from Kyauktaw also mentioned that the casualty occurred due to the explosion of an artillery shell that fell around 3 PM.

 

"The second artillery shell landed in the village around 2 PM or 3 PM, and we didn't hear any shots before it hit. This led to the tragic deaths of a child and a young man, and two others were injured," the resident said.

 

The injured were transported to the rural clinic in Myauk Taung village.

 

Due to the junta forces firing artillery shells from November 13 to January 2, almost 50 civilians lost their lives, and over 150 others sustained injuries.
