AA vice commander-in-chief thanks Arakanese fighters for a great victory gift

Vice commander-in-chief of the Arakan Army (AA) Dr Nyo Twan Aung expressed his gratitude to the Arakan Army(AA) fighters for presenting Ponnagyun township as a gift for his 43rd years birthday (falls on 4 March).

He posted on social media, "Thanks to all the Arakanese fighters and the overseeing commander of the regional military command, as well as commanders at all levels, for presenting Ponnagyun township as a great victory gift."

Dr Aung also offered his tribute to the AA comrades who sacrificed their lives during the battle.

Ponna Kyunt is situated 21 miles away from Sittwe and lies along the banks of Kaladan river.

Following the AA's announcement on 22 February regarding the capture of Ponna Kyunt’s Myoma police station, the AA fighters continued its offensive against the 550th light infantry battalion.

On 3 March, the AA issued a statement indicating that they are intensifying the offensive to fully capture the 550th battalion. The junta tried to defend it by engaging  army, navy and air force personnel.

Finally the 550th battalion in Ponna Kyunt fell to the AA fighters. Besides seven major towns, they have captured 216 battalions and divisions during the offensive against junta soldiers.
