China vows to play constructive role in stabilizing Rakhine situation



China has affirmed its commitment to play a constructive role in stabilizing the situation in Rakhine State, said a report by CGTN, China's state-owned news outlet on Friday.

 

During the UN Security Council briefing regarding the situation in Myanmar's Rakhine State, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, Geng Shuang elaborated about Beijing’s position on Rakhine  conflicts.

 

"As a friendly neighbour of Myanmar, China has been closely following the developments in the Rakhine region," said Geng Shuang adding that Beijing was initiating peace promotion through various channels.

 

Amidst international concerns over the recent escalation of violence in Rakhine State, Geng Shuang termed  it as Myanmar's internal problem. He urged the international community to respect Myanmar’s sovereignty and help facilitate dialogues among various stake holders.

 

He asserted that China's policy of friendship with Myanmar comprises all people of the country and they are committed to play a constructive role in generating peaceful resolutions for the benefit of the Rakhine people.

 

Finally he revealed that  a Chinese delegation was visiting Myanmar to mediate with various parties with the objective to resolve the ongoing conflict.
