Children rape incidents are increasing in Rakhine State

The incidences of children’s rape have increased in Rakhine State these days.

 

On 6 October, a 3-year-old girl was raped by a 22-year-old neighbor (Maung Kyi Hla Htay) in Tharek village under Pauk Taw township.

 

He raped the child whne she was playing, said a local resident of Pauk Taw locality.

 

"When the child returned home, her mother witnessed a different behaviour. Soon her mother saw bleeding. Lately, the rapist confessed his crime,” added the resident.

 

The United League of Arakan/ Arakan Army (ULA/AA) had already arrested the criminal last evening.

 

Earlier, on 29 September a 4-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the Sin Chya Seik area of Mrauk U township.

 

Zaw Win Maung (38) raped her while she was coming back from the shop buying a bread. The criminal took the girl to Mya Tansong hills near Layeang pagoda and then raped her.

 

On 16 July, a 9-year-old girl was raped in Alay Wra Chey village under Rathedaung township.

 

Incientally Yang Thangshin (17), a cousin of her from the same village, repeatedly raped her.

 

The ULA/AA members have arrested all the perpetrators, but the punishments have been delayed.

The local residents demand due punishment to the abusers.

 

A Sittwe resident said that he was feeling pain over the incidents. He pursued stringent punishments to the criminals.

 

In 2020, a young woman was brutally murdered after rape, as she was selling bangles in the market.

The incident took place on Min Bagyi street of Sittwe, but the culprit is yet to be punished.
