10 civilians killed, 7 injured within two days in Rakhine State

Casualties in Rakhine State are increasing day by day as at least  10 civilians were killed and 7 others injured within two days in four Rakhine townships.

 

The casualties were reported from  Minbya township (7) along with Maungdaw, Pauktaw and Myebon township with one each.

 

On 11 January, the junta soldiers shot dead  U Thein Chay Maung (45), Ko Gaung Hla (23), Daw Ma Nan Bon (50), and Daw Mel Yin (42) from Min Bar Gyi ward of Minbya township.

 

Next day,  U Hla Maung Thein (45) and Daw Hla Hla May (35) from Pike Thel Muslim village under  Minbya township and  U Tun Aye Naing (35) from Kyaung Shay Chaung village were killed by the artillery shells fired by junta forces.

 

"The soldiers from a military vessel in Minbya shot dead two men and two women from Min Bar Gyi ward on Thursday. On 12 January, the junta's navy personnel and the Minbya-based battalion fired artillery shells leading to deaths of a man and a woman  from Pike Thel village and a woman from Kyaung Shay Chaung village," said a local resident.

 

Two young boys from Pike Thel village were injured by the artillery shell-shrapnel and they are now receiving medical treatment.

 

Similarly, in Tha Yet Taung village of  Myebon, U Tin Ngwe (65) was killed by an artillery shell fired by the junta forces on Friday.


"An artillery shell-shrapnel struck Tin Ngwe causing severe damage to one side of his face,” said a Myebon resident.

 

 A  Maungdaw resident  informed  Narinjara News that at around 4:30 pm on 12 January,  an artillery shell fired by the junta forces struck Yae Nauk Thar village in northern Maungdaw township, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to three others.


"One person died on the spot. Another individual sustained serious injuries and he has been shifted to Maungdaw hospital. The remaining two individuals  are receiving medical treatment at their village," added the resident.

 

 On the morning of 11 January, Ko Maung San Win (30) was shot dead by the junta soldiers, while the Taung Nyo village residents in Pauktaw township were fleeing to other places.

 

Also, on 12 January at around 4 pm, an artillery shell fired from the Yae Soe Chaung tactical operation command base exploded at  Pyein Taw village under  Rathedaung township, which injured two persons, said a resident of Rathedaung locality.


“A shell landed near Pyein Taw village, causing injuries to a boy and a girl. The shelling persisted till  8:30 pm. The injured individuals could not go to the hospital and remain at their village,” added the resident.


One house caught fire and two other houses were damaged by the explosion of artillery shells.


Between 13 November and 13 January, since the commencement of gun fighting between the Arakan Army  and junta forces in Rakhine State, no less than 100 civilians were killed.
