Junta airstrikes kill 4 civilians, injure 8 in Mrauk-U

At least four civilians were killed and eight others injured as the junta forces engaged in airstrikes on the downtown area of Mrauk-U,  ancient city of Rakhine State.

A Y-12 aircraft bombed Mrauk-U township at around 12 noon on Sunday, said a young man from the township.

"There was a festival in Nan Yar Kone. I came to know that a mother and her son were killed by the bombs," added the young man.

The aircraft was hovering over the town in the morning hours and later bombed over the urban area, leading to  destruction and casualties in Taung Yat and Shwe Taung wards.

"I have no details. Nay La tea shop and a house were damaged in Taung Yat ward. Four people were killed in Shwe Taung ward," he revealed.

The bombs dropped by the junta's Y-12 aircraft landed at Taung Yat junction near Bar Bu Taung and  Nan Yar Kone areas.

The victims include  Daw Bu Bu (aged 37, hailed  from Kyet Shar Kyun ward), who was killed by a bomb in Kone Thel Tan ward of Mrauk-U township.

On 15 March, a 16-year-old girl from Ywar Haung Taw ward was killed and a 4-year-old boy was injured due to junta's airstrikes.

The residents returning to the town area are worried about the airstrikes. Mrauk-U was recently  captured by the Arakan Army  fighters.

According to a list compiled by Narinjara News, from 1 to 15 March, 21 civilians were killed as the junta forces conducted airstrikes and deliberately fired artillery shells over the residential areas in the Rakhine region.
