Over 180 organizations call on G7 countries to take action against Myanmar airstrikes on civilians

More than 180 Burmese civil society organizations have sent a petition to G7 countries urging them to take action against Myanmar military council's airstrikes on civilians.

The 49th conference of world's industrialized nations (G7) will be held in Hiroshima of Japan on 19-21 May, where the leaders from France, America, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy and Canada will attend.

Prior to it, the organizations appealed to G7 nations to initiative for an embargo over the channelized income to Myanmar Oil and Natural Gas Industry (MOGE) and Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank (MFTB) so that the military council can be prevented from carrying out more cruel airstrikes on the common Burmese.

It may be mentioned that on 11 April, at least 165 people including 19 children and 17 women were killed by a military airstrike at Pazi Gyi village under Kangbalu township of Sagaing division.

Earlier in October 2022, 75 civilians were killed in another military airstrike at Anantpa village of Kachin State.

As the resistance forces have been fighting against the military personnel, the gunfights continue in various localities like Sagaing, Magwe, Chin, Karen, Kayan, and Kachin. The Burmese junta forces also continue striking the people from the air.

Over 600 military airstrikes were recorder in Myanmar from February 2021 to January 2023. The junta forces now believe that they can maintain the grip on political power with the airstrikes only.

So they are acquiring military weapons and jet fuel from China, Russia and India. They are apprehended to continue attacking the civilians as long as they get necessary funds.

Tom Andrews, the United Nations Special Representative for Human Rights in Myanmar, is also understood to have pursued with the G7 countries to take action against the military council.
