At least Thirteen
civilian houses were damaged as the junta forces conducted airstrikes on Ramree (Yan Bye) township of Rakhine
State.
A local resident informed Narinjara News that following a fighter jet’s strike on Ramree at 2 pm on
Tuesday some houses in Kin Tel village,
situated at the foot of Ko Ran mountain, caught fire.
"I believe it was a MiG-29 fighter jet which was flying at a supersonic speed. It pumped bombs four
times before returning back. Kin
Tel village near Ko Ran mountain pagoda and Aung Dhamma Beikman areas faced the destruction,” he added.
On 2 January, the junta forces conducted many deliberate airstrikes on Ramree even in absence of any gun
fighting.
"The civilians managed to extinguish the fire. The junta
forces intentionally made
the airstrikes. In Ramree, we can hear the sound of weapons almost every day," he explained.
Ramree township's Covid-19 prevention team reported in a statement that on the evening of 2 January, the
junta’s airstrikes resulted in the
burning down of five
houses.
The statement, citing a resident of Ramree,
continued to report that at
3:10 pm on Tuesday, Magway air force base deployed a jet fighter to drop three bombs on Ramree. By 4
pm, another jet fighter released additional
4 bombs.
Three Brotherhood Alliance also stated that several houses in the town were damaged by the fire. A local
resident also informed that there was
artillery shelling on 1 January.
"On 1 January, the fire erupted in Laung Chaung which was caused by the impact of artillery shelling,"
he added.
Three Brotherhood Alliance stated that on 1 January Ramree township was targeted by artillery
shelling from the junta's warships, which
resulted in burning of several houses in the urban ward.
It also claimed that the military council troops, stationed in Ramree, strategically positioned their weapons
and the detained residents as human
shields, to intentionally conduct artillery shelling every day.
Tens of thousands of Ramree residents have been fleeing because of the conflict situation induced by the
indiscriminate artillery shelling
by the junta forces.
