Artillery shelling in Maungdaw injures 6 Rakhine residents, damages several houses

The junta forces on 12 May fired artillery shells in Maungdaw town of Rakhine State, which caused injuries to six Rakhine residents and damaged a number of houses, said local residents.

 

"The artillery shells exploded in 4-mile Ywar Thar Yar and Ngwe Taung villages, which were fired by the 5th border guard police battalion. Among those injured, two sustained serious  injuries,” added a resident.

 

The injured individuals hail from 4-mile Thar Yar Kone and Ngwe Taung villages. The resident also noted that on 12 May, several houses in Nyaung Chaung village, situated in southern Maungdaw locality, caught fire  due to artillery shelling.

 

Earlier on 9 May, the junta forces set Shwe Yin Aye and Nyaung Chaung villages near Maungdaw town on fire.

 

 During this month, the junta soldiers belonging to Myo Thu Gyi 5th border guard police battalion and armed Muslims set over 80 houses on fire. A woman in the 3-mile Wai Thar Li village near the 5th border guard police battalion was also killed.
