Powerful cyclone Mocha may create a very strong storm in the next fewhours, said the Myanmar meteorological and hydrology department in its6 am announcement on Friday.
It is assumed that the cyclone will make landfall over Myanmar’s Rakhine coastal areas on Sunday and Monday.
Developed in southeast of the Bay of Bengal, the cyclonic Mocha has moved towards the north.
The cyclone Mocha is now located in the Bay of Bengal at a distance of about 320 miles west & southwest of Koko island, about 415 miles southwest
of Hai Gyi island and about 520 miles
south & southwest of Sittwe.
Furthermore, it’s about 290 miles west &
northwest of Port Blair (India)
and about 565 miles south
& southwest of Cox's Bazar (Bangladesh), disclosed Myanmar meteorological
and hydrology department.
The central pressure of Mocha was 991 hectopascals and its maximum wind speed was found to be 60 to 70
miles per hour. In the next six, it
may move to the north and northeast.
On 14 May, the storm may cause landfall in between Cox's Bazar town (of south Bangladesh) and Kyauk Phyu of
Rakhine State.
It is also estimated that the storm may touch Sittwe, the capital city of Arakan State.
From this morning till 14 May, the delta along with the Rakhine coast and the offshore sea may witness stormy
winds. At that time, the sea waves
may be high, and the wind can blow up to 110 miles per hour.
Thousands of Arakanese people, who live in lower areas adjacent to the sea and rivers, have been evacuated
because of cyclone Mocha as a precautionary
measure.
