Former Rakhine State Prime Minister U Nyi Pu and his daughter Ma MoeSan Su Kyi, who were sentenced to long prison terms after the militarycoup, were recently transferred to respective prisons, said the family members.
Moe San Su Kyi, also officer in charge of National League for Democracy (NLD) youth unit, was
transferred from Insein prison in Yangon
to Thayarwati prison in Bago division on 9 June, her elder sister Ma Kyi Kyi Oo told Narinjara News.
After the military coup, she was arrested from an apartment in Hlaengtan township of Yangon on 9 May 2021 and charged with defaming the State under section 505-A. She was sentenced to six years in prison under section 17(1) of the unlawful association act.
Similarly her father U Nyi Pu was transferred from Sittwe prison to Insein prison in May, stated Kyi Kyi
Oo.
"There is nothing special to say about the change of prisons. If they want to change, they can. If the junta
authority wants to move they can,”
she added.
As the military took over power on 1 February 2021, he was arrested along with some Rakhine State
ministers.
After putting him under house arrest, he was arrested again on 10 February and sent to Sittwe prison.
He was sentenced two years in prison with hard labour under section 505(b) of the law on inciting
sedition, nine years in prison under
section (55) of the anti corruption law and two years
under article 130 (a) of voting fraud in the last national elections. He was sentenced to a total of
13 years in prison.
A former Rakhine political prisoner pointed out that the
transfer of the detainees was in
accordance with the procedures of the prison department.
“The transfer is done according to their
procedure. However, the human rights
(for example the medical treatment) are violated. Family members are not allowed to meet the detainees. I hope the
prisoners should get the benefits
in accordance with the human rights law," he added.
The family members of Moe San Su Kyi were allowed to meet to
meet her once, while she was
produced in the court during June. Her father was allowed to meet family members on 26 May and 16 June, when he
was undergoing the eye surgery at
a Tamwe township
hospital in Yangon.
"The operation was successful as his right eye was
cured after the surgery. However,
his left eye is yet to be fully recovered,” said Kyi Kyi Oo.
When he was in Sittwe prison, U Nyi Pu faced eye problems in
2022. Later it became severe and
his family members urged the authority for
the surgery.
Currently both the father and daughter are keeping well, informed the family members.
